From Heartbreak to Healthy Love: Mónica’s Personal Journey

Mónica's coaching philosophy grew out of a personal experience that many people seeking lasting love may recognize: wanting a healthy relationship while struggling to break patterns that repeatedly lead to disappointment.

After experiencing devastating heartbreak and years of unhealthy relationships, she began a process of healing and self-discovery. Instead of approaching dating as a search for someone who could finally make everything work, she started examining her own expectations, decisions, boundaries, and relationship habits.

Dating so extensively gave Mónica opportunities to learn about different people, evaluate compatibility, and understand what mattered to her in a relationship. Just as importantly, it challenged her to become more intentional about how she showed up in dating.

Meeting someone new can be exciting, but initial attraction does not necessarily indicate shared values, emotional availability, or compatible relationship goals. Learning to distinguish between these things can require patience, reflection, and a willingness to make different choices.

Mónica's journey ultimately led her toward a relationship with the love of her life. Today, she is happily engaged and brings the lessons she learned into her coaching practice.

Her experience does not mean every person's path to love will look the same. Rather, it illustrates a central theme of her work: the process of finding a compatible partner can also become an opportunity to understand yourself more clearly.

For someone recovering from heartbreak, this may mean learning to recognize an unhealthy dynamic before becoming deeply invested. For another person, it may mean rebuilding confidence after rejection or discovering that their desire for a relationship has led them to overlook their own needs.

In either case, the goal is not perfection. It is developing greater awareness and making choices that support the kind of relationship a person genuinely wants.

Mónica’s Coaching Philosophy: Heal, Prepare, Match

Mónica's approach to relationships can be summarized in three stages: healing from the past, preparing for a healthier relationship, and approaching partner selection with intention.

These stages reflect the structure of her six-month program, The Healthy Love Journey: Heal, Prepare, Match.

1. Heal: Understand What You Are Carrying Into Dating

Past relationships can influence how people approach new connections. Someone who has experienced rejection may become afraid of being abandoned. Another person may feel compelled to prove their worth by giving more than they receive. Others may find themselves returning to a former partner even when the relationship has repeatedly caused them pain.

Mónica helps clients explore these patterns and consider how they influence their decisions.

Healing does not require pretending that painful experiences never happened. It involves acknowledging them, understanding what they have taught you, and recognizing when past experiences may be shaping present choices.

For someone recovering from heartbreak, that process might involve establishing no-contact with a former partner, rebuilding routines, or learning to tolerate the discomfort of being alone without returning to an unhealthy relationship.

For another person, it may involve examining fears of rejection or abandonment that make dating feel emotionally risky.

The objective is to create space between an old emotional pattern and the choices a person makes today.

2. Prepare: Develop Self-Worth, Boundaries, and Clarity

Before entering a new relationship, it can be helpful to understand what you want and what you are willing to accept.

Mónica's coaching encourages clients to examine their relationship goals, personal values, needs, and boundaries. This work can help them distinguish between what they genuinely want in a partner and what they feel pressured to pursue.

Consider someone who wants a committed relationship but repeatedly becomes involved with people who avoid commitment. The issue may not be a lack of interest in love. They may need a clearer way to recognize incompatible intentions and act on that information earlier.

Preparation can also involve developing self-trust: the ability to acknowledge your own feelings, evaluate a situation, and make decisions without constantly seeking reassurance from another person.

For Mónica, personal growth is not about becoming worthy of love by meeting an impossible standard. It is about developing the awareness and confidence to participate in a relationship without abandoning yourself in the process.

3. Match: Date Intentionally and Evaluate Compatibility

Once clients have clarified their goals and are ready to date, practical decisions become important.

Mónica helps clients develop personalized dating strategies, improve their profiles and messaging, prepare for dates, and evaluate potential partners. She also emphasizes the importance of recognizing red and green flags and allowing relationships to develop at a healthy pace.

Instead of focusing only on whether someone likes you, intentional dating encourages additional questions:

  • Do our relationship goals align?
  • Can we communicate openly about what matters to us?
  • Do this person's actions consistently reflect their words?
  • Do I feel comfortable expressing my needs and boundaries?
  • Are we developing a connection at a pace that feels healthy for both of us?

These questions cannot guarantee compatibility, but they can help people make more considered decisions.

In short: Dating intentionally does not mean turning every interaction into an evaluation or expecting immediate certainty. It means staying curious while paying attention to the information a connection provides.

What Does Intentional Dating Look Like?

Intentional dating is a recurring theme in Mónica's work. It shifts the focus from simply finding someone to understanding what kind of partnership a person wants to build.

That distinction matters because the excitement of a new connection can sometimes make it difficult to recognize differences in values, expectations, or readiness for commitment.

Mónica's approach incorporates several practical elements.

Knowing What You Want

A dating strategy begins with understanding your relationship goals.

Someone seeking marriage may have different priorities from someone who is exploring dating without a clear long-term objective. Neither goal is inherently wrong, but differences can become significant when two people want fundamentally different things.

Clarifying expectations early can help people make more informed decisions about whom to date and how much time to invest.

Creating a Dating Profile That Reflects You

Online dating profiles are often treated as marketing exercises. People may focus on appearing attractive to as many potential partners as possible, even when doing so means presenting themselves in ways that do not reflect their personalities or priorities.

Mónica's coaching includes profile development and messaging, with an emphasis on approaching dating in a way that aligns with a client's goals and values.

The purpose is not to appeal to everyone. It is to communicate enough about yourself to help compatible people recognize a potential connection.

Evaluating Compatibility Beyond Chemistry

Physical attraction and excitement can be important parts of dating, but they are not the only indicators of a promising relationship.

Compatibility may also involve communication styles, emotional availability, lifestyle preferences, shared values, and expectations about commitment.

Mónica encourages clients to pay attention to both red flags and green flags rather than relying exclusively on the intensity of their feelings.

This does not mean searching for a flawless partner. It means learning to recognize the difference between ordinary imperfections and patterns that may conflict with the relationship you want.

Allowing a Relationship to Develop at a Healthy Pace

When someone has been lonely for a long time or is eager to find a lasting partner, it can be tempting to move quickly from initial attraction to emotional investment.

A healthy pace gives both people time to learn about each other and observe whether trust, communication, and consistency develop.

Mónica's coaching addresses this aspect of dating, helping clients approach new relationships with greater intention rather than feeling compelled to rush toward a particular outcome.

Recognizing Relationship Patterns and Rebuilding Self-Worth

A recurring theme in Mónica's work is the relationship between self-worth and the choices people make in love.

When someone doubts their own value, they may tolerate behavior that does not meet their needs, work excessively hard to earn another person's affection, or interpret rejection as proof that something is wrong with them.

These responses can become familiar over time, making it difficult to imagine approaching relationships differently.

Mónica works with clients on several patterns that can interfere with healthier connections.

Overgiving and Abandoning Your Own Needs

Generosity and consideration are valuable qualities in a relationship. However, when one person consistently puts the other person's needs first while neglecting their own, the relationship can become unbalanced.

Learning to maintain boundaries allows people to care for a partner without treating their own needs as unimportant.

Chasing Emotionally Unavailable Partners

Some people repeatedly become attached to partners who are inconsistent, distant, or unwilling to commit.

The uncertainty can make the connection feel especially compelling, even when it causes distress. Recognizing the pattern can help someone consider whether the relationship is meeting their actual needs rather than simply keeping them emotionally invested.

Fear of Abandonment and Rejection

Fear of losing a partner may lead someone to avoid difficult conversations, suppress their preferences, or remain in a relationship that no longer feels healthy.

Developing self-trust can make it easier to communicate honestly and accept that a relationship ending does not determine a person's worth.

Returning to Unhealthy Relationships

Ending a relationship does not always end the attachment. People may return to former partners because of loneliness, hope for change, familiarity, or difficulty accepting the loss.

Mónica's coaching addresses no-contact and detachment as part of breaking recurring relationship cycles.

Her selected client experiences include supporting a person who ended a decades-long attachment to an unhealthy relationship, helping another establish complete no-contact with a former partner, and guiding clients toward greater self-responsibility and self-worth.

She has also supported a male client recovering from an emotionally harmful relationship who subsequently entered a new relationship and worked on pacing it intentionally.

These individual experiences illustrate the kinds of changes her coaching aims to support. They are not guarantees of particular outcomes, but they demonstrate the personal and practical questions addressed in her work.

Explore Other Coaching Programs

Mónica has developed several individual and group coaching programs designed for different stages of the dating and relationship journey.

This eight-week program focuses on self-worth, emotional healing, relationship readiness, and healthier patterns.

It is designed around the personal work that can help people approach relationships with greater self-awareness and a clearer sense of what they want.

Ready to Date

This six-week program focuses on the practical side of dating.

Seminars and Group Coaching

Mónica has also created and facilitated multi-day seminars, including From Fear of Abandonment to Lasting Love, Your Best Romance (and It's Not What You Think), and Zero Doubt.

Her individual and group coaching formats allow her to support people with different goals, experiences, and preferences for personal development.

Across these offerings, her work combines reflection and practical action. Clients may explore emotional patterns while also developing concrete approaches to dating, communication, and partner selection.

From Colombian Diplomacy to Understanding Human Connection

Before focusing on dating and relationship coaching, Mónica spent 13 years working in Colombia's Foreign Service, with professional experience in Colombia and Germany.

Her diplomatic career included international relations, cultural diplomacy, public relations, international events, and cross-cultural communication. She served as Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Colombia in Berlin, where she designed, organized, and executed cultural programs representing Colombian culture and institutional interests in Germany. She also worked within the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including roles supporting senior leadership and international cultural affairs.

This background exposed her to people, institutions, and cultural perspectives beyond a single professional or social environment.

Although diplomacy and romantic relationships have different objectives, both can involve communication across differences, understanding another person's perspective, and navigating expectations with care.

Mónica's international experience is complemented by her bilingual work in English and Spanish and her experience facilitating personal development and wellness programs in the United States, Colombia, Mexico, and New Zealand.

Personal Growth Through Wellness and Mindfulness

Mónica has more than 14 years of experience teaching and facilitating yoga, meditation, and wellness activities. Her training includes international yoga teaching, Reiki, Yin Yoga, and Ayurveda and meditation studies.

These experiences inform the mindfulness and spiritual principles incorporated into her coaching.

For clients navigating heartbreak or uncertainty, mindfulness can provide a way to pause and observe emotions before reacting to them. Personal reflection can also help people identify what they need, recognize familiar responses, and make decisions with greater awareness.

Mónica combines these practices with practical dating guidance, allowing clients to work on both their internal experience and the decisions they face when meeting potential partners.

Supporting Colombian Artisans Through Entrepreneurship

Mónica is also the founder and CEO of Authentic Colombia LLC, an international business that brings traditional Colombian artisan work to the North American market.

BIG NUMBER

EMPOWERING ARTISAN COMMUNITIES

She supports more than three hundred Indigenous artisan families in Colombia by connecting their craftsmanship with international markets, particularly in the United States, through business strategy, marketing, partnerships, and operations.

This additional dimension of her career reflects an interest in building connections between people from different backgrounds while supporting opportunities for others.
